When planning the Oracle GoldenGate deployment, you would need to know how many CPUs, memory, disk space and I/O performance for the configuration. To answer this question, you need to ask the following questions:
Resources
- What is the source and target database (version, operating system and database type)?
- Where is the source and target database (location)?
- What's the network quality (bandwidth, latency and data loss)?
- What is the source database redo log generation rate?
- How much redo log need to be replicated? ( e.g. 20% or 50% or 100%, etc)
- (Optional) What's the ratio of redo log to trail file? (you can use the general 50% for estimation)
- What's the expected latency between all the replication steps? For the peak time, how much lag time can be acceptable?
- Do you have any special data types like CLOB or BLOBs?
- Do you plan to have transformations or external procedure calls? If so, can you provide more info?
- Do you plan to have conflict resolution and detection (CDR)? If so, can you provide more info?
