The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion tells the story of Don Tillman, an associate professor of Genetics at the University of Melbourne. Don has Asperger syndrome which causes him to have difficulties communicating with others and at the age of 40 he hasn't found a wife. He creates a "Wife Project" which uses surveys to filter out the "wife" candidates and eventually Rosie Jarman, a psychology Ph.D. candidate, comes into his life. He helps Rosie with her "Father Project" and begins breaking his rules and routines. Finally, Don realizes that he is in love with Rosie. As Claudia (his friend) tells him, "If you really love someone... you have to be prepared to accept them as they are." Don closes the "Wife Project" and starts the "Rosie Project." Instead of finding someone he can accept, he works on finding someone who might accept him. He reinvents himself to win Rosie's love, and the story has a happy ending. This is a hilarious love story, and I'm looking forward to the movie coming out next year. Humans often fail to see what is close to them and obvious to others. |
