Teradata databases use the Massively Parallel Processing (MPP) architecture. This architecture includes three major components: a Parsing Engine, a BYNET and the Access Module Processors (AMPs).
Resources
- The Parsing Engine parses SQL queries and preparing the execution plans.
- The BYNET stands for "BanYan NETwork," is a message passing layer which acts like a distributed interconnect network to link the parsing engine and AMPs. It provides both Point-to-Point and Broadcast communications.
- The AMPs, also called Virtual Processors (vprocs), actually stores and retrieves the data.
