Integrated capture is a unique GoldenGate capture mode for Oracle Databases. The feature was first introduced in Oracle GoldenGate 11.2.1 and is widely used after Oracle GoldenGate 12.1.2. Integrated capture is now the recommended approach to performing data capture for Oracle Databases. Let's discuss why you would consider using the integrated capture and how you can use this feature.
1. When to Use Oracle GoldenGate Integrated Capture
Integrated Capture runs within the Oracle Database Log Mining server to mine the database redo logs. The captured transaction changes are sent to Oracle GoldenGate extract process as Logical Change Records (LCR’s). The GoldenGate extract process then writes the transactions to the GoldenGate trail files. Because running natively in the Oracle Database, the following are the reasons why you would consider use integrated capture:

Because running natively in the Oracle Database, the following are the reasons why you would consider use integrated capture:
- Support Tables with Compression
This includes basic compression , OLTP compression, and Hybrid Columnar Compression (for Exadata) - Support Index Organized Table (IOT)
- Support Tables with Binary XML and Object Relational (O-R) XMLType
- Support Parallel DML on RAC
- Support Table with UDT and ANYDATA datatypes (Oracle GoldenGate 12.1.2.1 and later versions)
- RMAN can automatically retain the archive logs needed by the integrated extract.
- GoldenGate has more efficient table filtering.
- GoldenGate supports point-in- time recovery
- GoldenGate is easier to use when capturing from Oracle DB with RAC.
2. How to Use Oracle GoldenGate Integrated Capture
First, you need to make sure the database is ready for Oracle GoldenGate Integrated capture. The following database versions are recommended [1]:

- Oracle DB 11.2.1.0.3 (with patch 1411356.1)
- Oracle DB 14551959 one-off patch
- Oracle DB version 11.2.1.0.4.7 and later vesrion .
- Oracle DB verson 12.1.0.2.160419 and later vesrion
Do I still need a files system fro integrated extract?
Answer: Yes, you need a file system for the trail files.
