Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe depicts the pre- and post-colonial life at eastern Nigeria. Achebe told us through the experiences of Okonkwo, a legendary man in Umuofia(Oo-moo-oh-fee-ah) clan. Okonkwo grew up embarrassed his dad who was coward, lazy, and spendthrift. He fears that he could fail his dad. The fear drove him working very hard and thus made him a wealthy man in the tribe with three wives and children. However, the fear also made him very sensitive to people perception.
